Introduction

This assignment is optional. If you choose to do it, your score (between 0 and 5 points) will be added to your course grade. But the extra credit assignment will not be included in the grading curve. This means that you can get an A in the course without doing the extra credit assignment. Even if you do poorly on the extra credit assignment, it will not lower your grade in the course.

Assignment

1. Watch Paul Ewald's video, Can we domesticate germs?.
2. Write an essay consisting of:
   • A paragraph summarizing Ewald's argument.
   • A paragraph summarizing the evidence.
   • Two-to-three paragraphs discussing how diarrheal diseases might have evolved in response to the Neolithic, the Roman state, and the modern industrial state.
