One skill that you will find useful is surfing the library digital data
bases for newspaper articles, journal articles and data/statistics.
This is a lot like using Google but with the difference that 1) a variety of
sources are only available through paid subscription and the library pays
that for you, and 2) you can hone your search very sharply using search
terms that surf entire articles and not just title, author and/or abstract.
These buttons will give you 1) a history of how information has been stored
and transmitted over the millennia--the purpose of this is to drive home to
you how important the changes we are now experiencing are, 2)--more to the
point, a second button will give you the basics skills needed to access the
library's various data bases, and 3) a third button will begin introducing
you to search term strategies that will make your search successful.
