1. My WebCT is not working properly, I keep on getting error messages. What do I do?
The University of Utah WebCT system is maintained by a university-wide group of computer professionals. If you need technical assistance, please visit the Website of Campus Help Desk at http://www.it.utah.edu/services/helpDesk/index.html or call the Desk at 581-4000 option 1.

2. What’s the textbook for this class?

The textbook is “Personal Finance: An Integrated Planning Approach (Seventh Edition)”, by Bernard Winger and Ralph Frasca. The ISBN number is 0-13-219160-1. You do not need the CD.

3. How do I register for the midterm and final exams?

The midterm and finals are paper-based exams (i.e., not on the Web) and are thus managed by UOnline. You need to register for these exams and then take these exams at a UOnline site. You can get on UOnline at https://www.uonline.utah.edu/ to get more information about how to register for these exams. If you have questions regarding registration or need special accommodations, please contact Jeff Hullinger at UOnline ( jeff.hullinger@m.cc.utah.edu).

4. When is the latest I can register for the midterm and final exams?

If you are near Campus or in a place where the UOnline has a testing site (for a list of testing sites, please visit UOnline at https://www.uonline.utah.edu), you have up until one day before the exam to register. If you are in an area where no UOnline testing site exists, then you need to contact UOnline at least two weeks before the exam to make arrangements.

5. Can I take this class from out of state?

Yes, you can. All weekly lessons and quizzes are online, so there should be no problem with these weekly activities. The only arrangement that is different from taking it in state is the two paper-based exams. You need to contact UOnline to find out whether there are designated testing sites in your city or town. If so, UOnline will mail the paper-based exams there and you will take the exams in those designated locations. If there are no designated testing sites in your city, then you need to work with UOnline to locate a suitable facility for these exams. Please contact Jeff Hullinger at UOnline (jeff.hullinger@m.cc.utah.edu ) for details.

6. Why can I not open the syllabus?

The syllabus is in .pdf format. That is, you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open it. Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

7. Can I bring notes or a calculator to the exams?
You are allowed to bring a 3x5 index card of notes and a simple calculator to the class. You can put anything you wish on the 3x5 index card.

8. What is the format of the paper-based exams and what is the best strategy to prepare for the exams?
Each paper-based exam has 100 multiple-choice questions. These questions are very similar to the questions on the online quizzes. In fact, about 2/3 of the questions come directly from the quizzes. As such, it is very important that you go through all quiz questions as a preparation for the exams. Powerpoint lessons and exam review notes, which are posted on the course home page, should help you organize important concepts.
