TESTING WAGNER'S LAW FOR TURKEY 1960-2000
Ferda HALICIOÐLU (The University of Greenwich)
This paper is based on an empirical analysis of Wagner's law in the case of
Turkey over the period 1960-2000.
The validity of the proposition, that in the course of economic development
government expenditures increase, has been tested using recent advances in statistical
techniques.
Unlike the previous empirical evidences, the results of this study obtained
from the traditional versions of Wagner's law offer no support for it. However,
this paper proposes an augmented version of Wagner's law and fýnds statistical
evidences for it.
