The ABCml Applet Information
Quick links
Problems
The applet should run when you click on "Launch Applet" above. Here
are some suggestions in case it doesn't:
-
On my machine at work, it is sometimes necessary to press shift-reload
(hold down the shift key and press "reload") to get the applet to
start properly.
-
My machine at home is a Pentium-90 connected to the net via a cable
modem. It takes 20 seconds or so for the applet to load. If you have
a slow modem, it may take even longer.
-
On the Macintosh, Netscape 4.7 does not support Java version 1.1. (It
claims to, but its support is incomplete.) In our Macintosh lab, we
use the "Mac Runtime for Java", which is available on the net at http://www.apple.com/java. That
package includes a program called "appletrunner", which runs the ABCml
applet with no problem. Point the appletrunner at:
http://mombasa.anthro.utah.edu/alan/abcml/AbcmlJar.html
At the same time, point your (ordinary) web browser at
http://mombasa.anthro.utah.edu/alan/abcml
The Appletrunner will run the applet and the web browser will give you
access to the ABCml documentation. The applet also works fine on the
Macintosh version of Internet Explorer 5.0.
Platform notes
- Linux version of Netscape Communicator 4.72
- Works fine
- Macintosh version of Netscape Navigator 4.7
- Doesn't work. See notes on Macintosh under "Problems" above.
- Appletrunner program of Macintosh Runtime for Java, version
2.2
- Works fine.
- Macintosh version of Internet Explorer 5.0
- Works almost perfectly. After the last frame of the interaction,
it is necessary to reload the applet if you want to analyze another
data set.
- Windows version of Internet Explorer 5.5
- Works fine
If you experiment with this software, please let me know whether it
worked, and be sure to describe your browser software.---Thanks, Alan Rogers
