Election Resources

There are a variety of useful sources for the study of national and local Utah elections available.  Listed below are a few sources that I have found to be particularly helpful.

News Sources
Salt Lake Tribune
Deseret News
Ogden Standard Examiner
Provo Daily Herald
These newspapers provide excellent cover of Utah politics. The Tribune and the Deseret News provide the most general statewide coverage, while the Standard Examiner and the Daily Herald provide coverage of Utah's first congressional district and third congressional district respectively.

Marriott Library, University of Utah
The Marriott Library provides access to an extensive collection of local and national newspapers.

Two sources that I have found to be particularly useful for their coverage of national elections are the Washington Post and CNN.
Washington Post
CNN/AllPolitics

Government Sources
State of Utah
Lt. Governor's Election Information
For official government information on Utah, check the state's website.  The Lt. Governor's office is the best source of official information on Utah elections. In other states, similar official information can usually be found at the Secretary of State's Office webpage.

National Election Data
The National Election Studies
CENSUS - Voting and Registration Data
The National Election Studies data provides a variety of summary statistics from the 1952 through 1998 National Election Study surveys. The Census site provides detailed information on registration and turnout for the US and also for each of the states.

Campaign Finance Information
Federal Election Commission
Opensecrets.org - The Center for Responsive Politics
Center for Public Integrity
The Federal Election Commission provides data that federal candidates, political parties, and political action committees, must report on their campaign financing. The Center for Responsive Politics and the Center for Public Integrity are nonprofit research organizations that provide analysis of the trends in campaign finance.

Polling Sources
PollingReport.com - Public Opinion Online
The Gallup Organization
Pew Center for the People and the Press
These three sites provide both excellent collections of reports on national poll results.

General Election Information
Project Vote Smart - A Voter's Self-Defense System
Vote Utah - Utah Election Information
Two very good sources of general information about national and Utah elections.
